Dragons strike gold at the British Championships

  What a weekend for the dragons as they took on the Countries best judoka at the 2024 British Championships in Warwick.  Kin Ryu sent their biggest squad to date as 14 young athletes took to the mats over the weekend. On Saturday it was the turn of the cadet boys and pre cadet girls. Kin Ryu had a strong team in attendance with some previous medal winners as well as some new up and coming talent.  The day started strongly with the team taking some early wins. Nikolaos Goudinakis u66kg, Vaidotas Pulokas u55kg, Ajin Rubakaran u60kg had some great contests but were unable to get to the medal rounds on this occasion.  Sam Tang u60kg put in a superb perfomance but following a loss after a thrilling semi-final he fought for bronze and was succesful in gaining a place on the podium.  George Armstrong u81kg also had some exciting matches, losing his 1st contest but winning all the rest to gain a place in the bronze medal fight. Dragons find top form in Canada

  Kin Ryu Judo Club are celebrating after incredible results at the Pan American Cadet and Junior Cups in Montreal, Canada.  On Thursday athletes Samuel Tang, Olivia Barfoot-Saunt and Lucy Robinson stepped up an age group into u21's and showed they can compete with the best on the World stage. It was a tough day for Lucy as she was unable to progress to the medal rounds in the u52kg category.  Sam started strongly narrowly losing out on a medal as he took 5th place in a strong u60kg category. Liv was on fire as she competed for the 1st time at her new u48kg weight. She won the 1st 3 fights conclusively to gain a place in the final. An injury saw her lose this contest but she is incredibly proud to win a superb silver medal, her 1st International Medal (pictured above). The following day it was the Cadet Championships. Mini Dragons medal in Ealing

  Well done to the mini dragons out to play at  Ealing Judo Club  today. Fantastic competition and so important for the development of young athletes. Never underestimate the importance of these development events so that young athletes can have fun, learn and try their judo against others without the pressure of results. Very proud of all of you and thanks to Steve Dunn and Nikolaos Goudinakis for supporting the kids.

Josh Boxell takes Silver at Commonwealth Tournament

  Congratulations to Josh Boxell who fought hard to win a superb silver medal at the Commonwealth Tournament in Malth.# Josh lead all the way in his preliminary contests with some superb throwing. In a close final he made a small error which cost him a shido (penalty) and gave his opponent the win. This is Josh's 1st International medal and put him in a good place leading to the Europeans later in the year. 

Dragons meet Japanese judo legend Masashi Ebinuma

This weekend the dragons were treated to a masterclass by the legendary judoka Masashi Ebinuma. As well as learning some of his techniques he took the time to randori with players and give them autographs. An inspiring day with an incredible athlete!

Dragons off to a flying start in 2024

  Kin Ryu dragons have got off to a flying start this year with the team flying to Glasgow for the Scottish Open.  This event is the 1st major tournament of the new year with players from all over the UK and international teams from around the world competing in of the UK's biggest tournaments. Kin Ryu had great representation with our national squad making the journey. The masters team started the weekend with current national champion Joshua Boxell staying on winning form taking gold in the u81 M1 section.  In the cadets Sebbie Robottom put on a great performance taking 7th in u55kg. Following was Alex Mckee in the u42kg and he continued his British championship podium form, winning bronze with some long contests.      In the tough u60kg category Sam Tang took all his early contests with superb winning throws to get into the semi-final.
