Kin Ryu Dragons on tour in Sweden

  In May the Kin Ryu dragons headed to Sweden to compete in the Budo Nord Cup and training Camp. The team of 15 athletes and 2 coaches travelled to Lund, Sweden to compete in the tough 2 day competition and 2 day camp. The 1st day started with the cadets (14-17yrs) and competing for the club was Lucy Robinson u48kg, Megan Howe u52kg, Rhian Hooker u70kg, Daniil Grishin u50kg, Callum Burke u55kg, Declan Knight u60kg and Louis Rothwell u60kg.  Lucy and Daniil were both fighting up an age band but made excellent starts to the weekend, both winnng a fabulous bronze medal in the cadets. There were no medals for our other cadets but all showed some excellent judo throughout the day.  On day 2 it was the turn of our pre cadets (u15yrs) and our Junior (u21yrs) athletes. Dragons selected for team Sussex

  Congratulations to all the Kin Ryu athletes selected to represent team Sussex at the Intercounty team championships hosted by Hampshire. The intercounties is a team event which sees the best athletes from Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Hampshire compete against each other for the title of top County team. Kin Ryu had representitives in all 6 County teams the u12yr old boys and girls, u16yr boys and girls, senior kyu grade team and senior dan grade team.  The u12yr old teams fought well against tough opposition and there will be lots of potential in the teams as these athletes develop final results were Sussex girls 4th and Sussex boys 3rd. In the u16yr teams both the boys and girls were on fire winning all their team matches to both claim the top spots and bring home gold medals. In the seniors the kyu grade team were let down by a team member not turning up but the team fought valiantly only losing a single contest between them but still had to settle for 4th place. Mini Dragons strike gold in London

Kin Ryu dragons were out in force at the London Development Open held at UEL in Docklands. For many of the team this was their 1st competition but they were determined to give it their best. In the Red belt boys the final results were Gold: James Peckham, Arun Rubakaran, and Issac Sanger Silver: Boris Geshkov Bronze: Freya Wheatley, Joseph Wheatley, Rayyan Mezali, Rami Mezali and Louie Wasely In the Yellow / Orange belt section the final results were Gold: James Stone and Alex McKee Silver: Kiera Dengate Bronze: Ajin Rubakaran The final group to compete were our senior low grades who were also experiencing their 1st taste of competition. The 4 athletes enjoyed the start of their competitive career and the final results were: Gold: Elvis Wakabe and Rhian Hooker Silver: Aziz Khan and Simon Mersh Another great day for the dragons!  

Kin Ryu Coach Lisa at the Senior Europeans

  Coach Lisa was selected to referee at the European Senior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. This 3 day competition is the premiere event in the European calendar and Lisa was selected as one of 18 referees from across Europe. This event is the highest selection for a British referee for many years and is a personal achievement for Lisa as she has now been selected to referee at all European levels from Cadet to Senior.
