Dragons selected for team Sussex

 


Congratulations to all the Kin Ryu athletes selected to represent team Sussex at the Intercounty team championships hosted by Hampshire.

The intercounties is a team event which sees the best athletes from Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Hampshire compete against each other for the title of top County team. Kin Ryu had representitives in all 6 County teams the u12yr old boys and girls, u16yr boys and girls, senior kyu grade team and senior dan grade team. 

The u12yr old teams fought well against tough opposition and there will be lots of potential in the teams as these athletes develop final results were Sussex girls 4th and Sussex boys 3rd.

In the u16yr teams both the boys and girls were on fire winning all their team matches to both claim the top spots and bring home gold medals.

In the seniors the kyu grade team were let down by a team member not turning up but the team fought valiantly only losing a single contest between them but still had to settle for 4th place. In the Dan grade team their was some superb judo on display as the team stormed through their matches to take gold.

Dragons off to a flying start in 2024

  Kin Ryu dragons have got off to a flying start this year with the team flying to Glasgow for the Scottish Open.  This event is the 1st major tournament of the new year with players from all over the UK and international teams from around the world competing in of the UK's biggest tournaments. Kin Ryu had great representation with our national squad making the journey. The masters team started the weekend with current national champion Joshua Boxell staying on winning form taking gold in the u81 M1 section.  In the cadets Sebbie Robottom put on a great performance taking 7th in u55kg. Following was Alex Mckee in the u42kg and he continued his British championship podium form, winning bronze with some long contests.      In the tough u60kg category Sam Tang took all his early contests with superb winning throws to get into the semi-final.
