Judo is back! Dragons bring home the medals at C2 International

Judo is back! This weekend saw the dragons heading back to UEL in London for the C2 International competition. On Saturday our U15 pre cadets took to the mats and fighting for the club was Daniil Grishin u46kg, Tyler Hill u50kg, Sam Tang u50kg and Zara Howe u36kg. All 4 athletes had recently had success at the English Closed tournament so were looking to continue their winning streaks.

Dan started strongly winning his first 4 contests in style to book an early place in the final. His final contest proved to be a close, nail biting contest with it being all even going into extra time. After 3 minutes of extra time it was Dan's opponent who managed to get the score and he took an impressive silver medal.

Sam and Tyler were once again competing in the same weight group and made impressive starts winning their initial fights with strong ippon throws. In the semi-finals both the lads lost their contests which put them into the bronze medal fights but again they powered through to both win and take a bronze medal each.

In the girls Zara started well taking an early victory to get into the semi-finals. A loss at this point put her into the bronze medal position and she was able to capitalise on this and win a fantastic bronze as she establishes herself in her new weight group.

On Sunday it was the turn of the Cadets u18yrs and Juniors u21yrs. Competing for the club was Joshua Browning u73kg cadets and Thomas Moore u55kg Junior. Josh made a great start in a very large group of boys taking an early win with a superb ippon throw. 2 further losses however saw him out of the event but making good progress in his new age band.

Thomas was competing for the 1st time in several years but established himself in the group winning his 1st fight when his partner had to submit from a strangle. In his last fight he was leading the fight all the way, but a small mistake saw his partner catch him and he had to settle for the bronze medal.

Another great weekend for the dragons!
